Tour de France à la Voile 2003

Bouygues Telecom team comfort their lead !

vendredi 11 juillet 2003Information Tour Voile

It’s another long day for the 37 crews participating in the Tour de France à la Voile 2003. After a frustrating offshore race from Camaret to St-Nazaire that had to be shortened after only 57 miles due to the lack of wind, the crews had to motor their boat to St-Nazaire. Though they arrived late last night, they had to be fresh and ready this morning for today’s inshore race off the Loire’s mouth and tonight’s offshore race to St-Denis d’Oléron.

Nantes’ s Pierre Loïc Berthet and his crew onboard Bouygues Telecom, proved how well they know their waters as they came home in first ahead of Federico Michetti’s Joey Fly Sailing Team and Julien Farnarier’s Ville d’Antibes NEC. With today’s win, the defending champions, who had Loïck Peyron navigating, secure their place in the overall lead that they had gained yesterday after finishing in 3rd. "It’s very nice to sail with such good sailors", said Loïck Peyron who is also busy trying to raise money for Team France, a America’s Cup America's Cup #AmericasCup campaign he wants to built with Bertrand Pacé. If today’s inshore race was most satisfying for the Italians, it was not the case for the Aussies on board Sun Southern Team Australie who, after two disappointing results in a row, now stand in 10th place overall.

And it’s not time for a rest yet. As after today’ s inshore race, the crews of had very little time to spent ashore before the start, tonight at 22:00, of the next 100-mile offshore race to St-Denis d’Oléron. Hopefully, this coming leg should be windier and therefore more interesting and less frustrating.

- Frédéric Guilmin (Capsport) : "The conditions should be better and provide good racing It should be less tricky than the previous offshore race" Nicolas Troussel (Région Ile de France) : "It should be a speed downwind race. To succeed, it will be important to manage the wind shifts and the Isles shadows. It will be a most demanding race".

- Loïck Peyron (Bouygues Telecom) : "The Tour de France à la Voile gathers very good sailors. There are some groups of people, such as the crew of Bouygues Telecom, who have sailed together for many years. They’re potentially part of our project. One of them, Mathieu Richard, has qualified for the match-racing match-racing #MatchRacing worlds". Serge Madec (Ville d’Antibes NEC) : " I do hope to take revenge on Bouygues Telecom that is to do as well from St-Nazaire to Oléron that they did from Camaret to St-Nazaire"
