Bruno Peyron sets two records to Cape of Good Hope
On his attempt at the round the world crewed sailing record, Bruno Peyron and Team Orange set two new records this evening off the Cape of Good Hope. The maxi-catamaran Orange II, which set out from Ushant on 24th January at 10.03 GMT crossed the longitude of the Cape of Good Hope (20°East) this evening (Monday 7th February) at 18h22 GMT. -

Fred le Peutrec faster sailor in the bay of Douarnenez
Saturday saw the completion of the third edition of the Défi Petit Navire in Douarnenez. After three days of eyewatering battles against the clock and the competition, it is Fred Le Peutrec aboard 60’ trimaran Gitana XI (ex Belgacom) that takes outright victory with the fastest time in the event’s history. -

Karine Fauconnier is continuing to stretch away across the Irish Sea
The top trio are clear of the Fastnet now tackling the waters of the Irish Sea. Géant passed very close to Mizzen Head on the south-western tip of Ireland in anticipation of the Fastnet, with Groupama just below. Multihulls sail in a record time at mid-course to St Malo
The Orma fleet are mid-course today with Sergio Tacchini leading throughout the day. After numerous changes it was Tim Progetto Italia and Sodebo that completed the podium, with Crêpes Whaou! and Ciment St-Laurent respectively leading the 50 foot multis and monos. Fauconnier and Soldini first to round Cap Race
At the 1300 GMT ranking the top ten Orma multihulls were grouped into a 60 mile zone and the leaders have made a hard left at Cape Race to the south-east of Newfoundland with Sergio Tacchini and Tim Progetto Italia first to begin the cold and wet ascent of the Atlantic. Desjoyeaux leads the 60’ multihull fleet when arriving in Atlantic
After 48 hours the majority of the twelve Orma multihulls have left the Madeleine Islands, in the middle of the bay of Saint Laurent, to port and should make it out into the North Atlantic this evening, European time.
