The french challenger for the America’s Cup does not make unanimity
vendredi 23 août 2002 – Christophe Guigueno
Nearly height hundred people have answered to SeaSailSurf.com poll about the partnership between Le Défi Français for the America’s Cup 2003 and Areva, the french nuclear power company. Only 54% of them supports the sailors… A kind of disapproval ?
More than fifty percent of the people who have answered to the poll (25% are english speaking people) is not surprised to see a french nuclear company (remember the french past governments implicated in the attack of the Rainbow Warrior in Auckland and with the nuclear tests in Mururoa) to sponsor a boat racing in the port of Auckland, in the most antinuclear country of the world. The most important thing may be to enter in the competition whatever is the sponsor.
But it looks like it is not what does think a big part of the people who have answered to the poll. Lots f them have decided to stop supporting the racing team and the yellow boats. 41% of them say they "can’t believe that Le Défi did united forces with Areva to represent the french nuclear industry in a port like Auckland". A big and surprising score…
New poll : your favorite teams / skippers for the winter races !
The french IACC boats are to arrive in Auckland. How the New Zealanders will welcome them ? Will they be able to enter in the Louis Vuitton Cup ? Will they get selected for the America’s Cup ? Now the game is in the hands of the sailing team.
And you, do you think they have a chance to compete against Team New Zealand in the Americas’Cup ? Which one will be the winner of the 2003 America’s Cup ? And for the two other races of the winter ? Who will win the Route du Rhum (in multihull and monohull divisions) ? And Around Alone ? Make your choice !
