Winner of the Solitaire Afflelou Le Figaro
samedi 30 août 2003 –
Armel Cléac’h carried out the exploit of the month by winning the 34th Solitaire Afflelou Le Figaro. He made a success of the holdup that all hoped at the beginning from Les Sables d’Olonne by gaining the Bilbao - La Rochelle leg then winning final classification in front of Alain Gautier... by 13 seconds !
The exploits of the skipper of the Créaline Figaro-Bénéteau are multiple on this exceptional event :
– He wins the second stage and first arrival of the summer in France to make a success of an excellent media blow thus.
– He wins one of the four stages of the Solitaire knowing that the three other winners already carried out a round the world yacht race : Yann Elies, winner in Bilbao made The Race and holds the Trophy Jules Verne ; Alain Gautier, winner in Dingle, has won the Vendée Globe ; Lionel Péan, winner in St Nazaire has won the Whitbread 1985, the race around the world as a crew, current Volvo Ocean Race.
– he also has won the race over a historical time. Only 13 seconds separate him from Alain Gautier to the addition of time of the four stages ! An exploit worthy of a finish Greg Lemon - Laurent Fignon on the Round of France cyclist. Better than the 63 seconds of Transatlantic race AG2R or the 98 seconds of the Route du Rhum...
– He goes up on the highest walk of the podium surrounded of two former winners of the Vendée Globe (Alain Gautier and Michel Desjoyeaux), both skippers of trimarans of 60 feet.
– he wins the first Solitaire Afflelou Le Figaro of the new era of Figaro-Bénéteau 2.
– He wins the event of the stars where Gautier, Desjoyeaux, Thiercelin and Peyron finish in the eight first.
– He wins the Solitaire at his fourth participation like Franck Cammas before him...
Did Armel Cléac’h carry out the performance of the month well (of the year ?) and for that the title of SeaSailSurfer of August 2003 deserves.

August 2010 was rich in events and performances. Many SeaSailSurfers made great performances. We will however retain Bertrand Delesne’s run in the second leg of race to the Azores. On his mini, he covered 304,90 miles in 24 hours. He is SeaSailSurfer of the month !
