SeaSailSurfer of March 2007 : Laurent Voulzy
« Belle-Île-En-Mer – Marie-Galante » a song for a sailing competition : « Belle-Île-En-Mer – Marie-Galante »… These are the first words of a famous french song created by Alain Souchon and Laurent Voulzy in 1986. From this month it is the course of an offshore single-handed sailing competition too. Its singer Laurent Voulzy is then the SeaSailSurfer of March 2007.
« I am impressed by those sailors who go offshore. They have a special mind, especially when the sail offshore alone » said Laurent Voulzy, few days before the start of the Figaro-Bénéteau race, the fourth Trophée BPE. « For me these guys are extra-terrestrials ! But may be, I will sail one day by myself, across the Atlantic… »
For the moment, 26 skippers are competing across the Atlantic. They left Belle-Île-En-Mer on Sunday 25 and are awaited three weeks later in Marie-Galante, this island around Guadeloupe. Thanks Laurent for the idea !

On said kitesurfing is not sailing. Other said the Luderitz Speed Challenge’ spot is not deep enough. But the channel in Namibia is a fixed place with 500 meters marks and is more than 80 cm deep.
