Rookie and surfing world champ

For the first time in the ASP World tour, a rookie has won the championship. Stephanie Gilmore, 19 yo, wins the 2007 ranking ahead of Peruvian Sofia Mulanovich and Silvana Lima from Brazil.

Third times winner of the Solitaire Afflelou Le Figaro : One Vendée Globe, one Route du Rhum, one OSTAR and… three Solitaire ! Mich’Desj, "The Professor" has signed a big schelem in solo offshore racing. And this winter he won again the Solitaire ahead of Duthil and Douguet.
We knew he has the best rangings of the world of solo offshore racing, now he is at the top of the Solitaire rankings. He counts three wins such have done before him Jean Le Cam and Philippe Poupon. Hi just misses Around alone and the Mini-Transat. A race he won years ago… the second leg "only" at the heml of the first offshore racing boat with a canting keel.
At 42 years old, Desjoyeaux is still young even he has begin racing with late Eric Tabarly in the Withbread. At the helm of a one design boat of a prototype, of a multihull or a monohull, Michel has won lots of race. And we will find him again in the next Vendée Globe entry list, at the helm of a new Farr designed Open 60…

On said kitesurfing is not sailing. Other said the Luderitz Speed Challenge’ spot is not deep enough. But the channel in Namibia is a fixed place with 500 meters marks and is more than 80 cm deep. When kitesurfers and windsurfers sail there, there are truly in the spirit of the original Weymouth and Brest Speed Weekds. Their records are not (…) -

Russell Coutts, the boss of the american Defender, BMW Oracle Racing, has made younger the older sport trophy of the world. As the competition will be sailed aboard wingsailed catamarans, he made the trophy, and sport sailing competition, entering the third millenary. He is the SeaSailSurfer of the month. -

SeaSailSurfer of August 2010 : Bertrand Delesne
August 2010 was rich in events and performances. Many SeaSailSurfers made great performances. We will however retain Bertrand Delesne’s run in the second leg of race to the Azores. On his mini, he covered 304,90 miles in 24 hours. He is SeaSailSurfer of the month !

Décidément, Horta devient l’escale coqueluche de la course au large. Après les Minis et les Class40, c’est au tour des coureurs de la classe Figaro Bénéteau de mettre le cap sur l’archipel des Açores. Et pour compléter le tableau, c’est Lorient, au cœur de la Sailing Valley bretonne qui sera le port de départ et d’arrivée d’une épreuve qui (…) -

Armel Le Cléac’h : "C’est une terrible déception que d’avoir eu cet accident"
Armel Le Cléac’h, skipper du Maxi Solo Banque Populaire VII, devait s’élancer pour la 10e édition de la Route du Rhum – Destination Guadeloupe le 2 novembre prochain. Il s’est malheureusement blessé gravement à la main droite, ce qui l’empêche de prendre le départ et l’oblige à déclarer forfait. -

Après sa participation au F18 World Championship en juillet dernier, Sébastien Rogues, âgé de 28 ans, a décidé de participer à la GREAT CUP. Le skipper barrera un multicoque GC 32, catamaran à foil de 32 pieds (9,75 m). Pour l’occasion, il a recruté le tandem récemment sacré Vice-Champion du Monde en F18, Benjamin Amiot et Gurvan Bontemps. -

Cardiff Bay saved the best for last for the 11-boat Extreme 40 fleet, where Alinghi, The Wave, Muscat and J.P. Morgan BAR battled it out until the bitter end for the top positions, in one of the closest – and most exciting – three-horse fights seen in the Series, which resulted in a three way collision and three consecutive penalties too boot (…) -

Leigh McMillan a remporté l’Acte 5 des Extreme Sailing Series™ à Cardiff
Au quatrième et dernier jour de course, les 11 Extreme 40 se sont battus à couteaux tirés sur le plan d’eau britannique. C’est le cas tout particulièrement des leaders de l’épreuve, The Wave, Muscat, J.P Morgan BAR et Alinghi qui pouvaient tous les trois prétendre à la victoire et qui dans la dernière manche sont entrés en collision. L’Australienne Nikki Van Dijk a gagné le Swatch Girls Pro France
Nikki Van Dijk (AUS) a gagné le Swatch Girls Pro France et la vice-championne, Mahina Maeda (HAW) reçoit la wildcard pour le Swatch Women’s Pro à Trestles. L’Australienne de 19 ans bat Maeda et remporte le premier prix équivalant à US $8,000 et 3,500 points pour le classement ASP Qualifying Series (QS).
