Benoît Lequin et Pierre-Yves Moreau known as PYM, are going to attempt the impossible and set a new record in the world of the race of scope. Supported by their families, the whole Pays de Lorient, the big sailing network and all the partners who are following them through this challenge, they are going to cross the Atlantic from USA to Lorient in Brittany.
After forced stand by caused by tropical cyclones Ana and Bill, good weather conditions have been confirmed yesterday and the starting signal has been done by the route planner, Christian Dumart.
Since the announce, Benoit and PYM have installed everything and stay ready.
They prepaired their equipment and spent their last hours on the phone with their wives and children.
This Monday 24th August 2009, sun Zenith in New York , 6 PM in France, Octo Finances is leaving Liberty Landing Marina and its statue (40°41’20.62"N 74° 2’40.68"O), and heading to the Cité de la Voile in Lorient (47°43’53.89"N 3°22’28.38"O). The distance is more than 3000 miles and they should sail in less than 13 days with a medium speed of 10 knots...
