International Rolex Regatta
Racing and Reggae Combine for Festive Time in St. Thomas
vendredi 8 mars 2002 –
While it has been a wildly popular Easter Weekend racing tradition for 28 years, the International Rolex Regatta has just become the island of St. Thomas’s hottest social ticket as well.
For its 29th running from March 28-31, the event will be the staging platform for island-wide festivities and expanded community involvement.
The brand new USVI Governor’s Race on March 28 adds a day to the regatta for some of the larger boats competing and also gives smaller boats an optional race day for enjoying both the awesome beauty of the U.S. Virgin Islands and the hospitality of host St. Thomas Yacht Club. Evening activities will begin with a trophy presentation at the St. Thomas Yacht Club and proceed with a Full Moon Beach Party. The spicy calypso and reggae band P’your Passion will maintain the evening tempo through sunset, dinner and shoes-off dancing.
Throughout the regatta, $5 value buttons will gain islanders, visiting sailors, families and friends free or discounted admission into local attractions and savings-smart prices on food and beverages at countless restaurants and bars. A Pirate Block Party on Saturday night will turn the town of Red Hook into a theme festival with best-of-the-island food and entertainment, including the TNT band, renowned for its sax player, a former member of the Ricky Martin Band.
"Every night will be packed with fun," said the International Rolex Regatta’s Social Chair Jayne Hillner, "and the days will be busy with activities for families and friends of the racers. The island has so much to offer, and this is going to be the weekend to make the most of it."
