Girl Power On Amer Sports Too

With the equator crossed by all yachts over the course of the day, some of the crews have experienced this crossing for the first time. The ceremonial visit by King Neptune, and the penalties he has inflicted on them will be over by now. Freddy Loof, helmsman on Amer Sports One was really worried and he wrote : "For my own concern I will also make sure the razors and the tools, which can make me suffer, slowly disappear later on tonight. I am a little bit more concerned when it all will be happening though, I was just up on deck steering for a few hours, slowly bearing off from course, which is pretty much straight to the equator."
On djuice Anthony Nossiter is under real threat as it is common thinking that he will be punished for rounding Cape Horn naked. Mickey Lundh wrote that "there are already rumours about a nude crossing by, yes you all know. Onboard however the violin is playing rather different and one person said why not let him dress up in a survival suit for a day or two. That would teach him from running around nude in King Neptune’s paradise (survival suit in 40 + degrees)."
On the race track, SEB was making the most of being the most westerly yacht and gained on all around her, achieving the best speeds of the whole fleet for extended periods. She has moved up to fourth place. Unfortunately for News Corp, the most easterly yacht, this has meant that she has been relegated to seventh position for the time being. Not only has she lost places but also a lot of miles.
Bringing up the rear, djuice was not able holding off the advances made by Lisa McDonald’s Amer Sports Too who pushed hard to overtake.
Once again the girls on Amer Sports Too have shown very good routing and sailing. They have chosen a similar strategy to SEB, letting the boat run on a more westerly course and pulled away from the guys around. The real asset for them was the speed difference they were achieving, one knot faster than News Corp and almost three knots faster than Amer Sports One. Djuice was suffering from very light wind and was left behind. Lisa McDonald is very confident that they will be able keep up the pace they are showing now. Her husband Neal, skipper of second positioned ASSA ABLOY says that he is very proud of the performance the all female team is showing right now.
After being locked together with Tyco and ASSA ABLOY, illbruck managed to get away from the two yachts by eight miles. John Kostecki, illbruck’s skipper, said in a satellite interview : "We have a few miles lead now and I hope it helps to get away. We sailed the boat really hard and we were playing the clouds better than the competition. Chris Bedford, our meteorologist trained everybody on board well, but Juan [Vila] had a big impact on this." Noel Drennan will face King Neptune in a few hours, as it was dark when illbruck crossed the equator. John Kostecki expects the trade winds to set in tomorrow to get a quick ride to Miami, 2700 nautical miles away. A little later, illbruck gave up the cover on ASSA ABLOY and Tyco, who luffed slightly up to a more northerly course, and gained
several miles on illbruck.
SEB has clearly left the trailing group and pushes as hard as they can to get in contact with the leaders.

Volvo Ocean Race : Dongfeng Race Team win the Race with late pass on final day
Dongfeng Race Team has won the Volvo Ocean Race 2017-18 in the closest finish in race history. Skipper Charles Caudrelier led his team to victory on the final leg of the race, a 970-mile sprint from Gothenburg, Sweden to The Hague. Volvo Ocean Race : Millions of tiny particles of plastic have been detected in European waters
The scientific research, using data collected by Race team ‘Turn the Tide on Plastic’, identified over three million micro plastic particles per square kilometre of ocean. The sub-surface data on micro plastic pollution levels was collected using a state-of-the-art instrument on board their Volvo Ocean 65 racing yacht.
