The wind has finally taken a breather here in Gran Canaria. After five days of hectic conditions and radical action sailors arrived at the beach this morning to the scene of a light breeze and glassy waves. Many sailors were welcoming a day off and taking the opportunity to relax aching muscles, surf or retune their equipment.

We are down to the final stages of the men’s double elimination wave competition here at the Gran Canaria PWA 2002 Gran Slam. The wind and waves were excellent for most of the day but competition was eventually abandoned at heat 61 when the high tide late this afternoon killed off the surf.
