jeudi 5 décembre 2002 –
Sport sailing web site, SeaSailSurf.com, presents a new rule for racing keelboats with maximum hull length of 6.50 meters. The rules are Open in a restricted area and developped with a forum of contributors.

To know more about the SEASAILSURF SIX•5, this is a FAQ :
1. Why a new rule ?
Inshore monohulls are developped around numerous classes like one-designed keelboats (ex : Star or Monotype 750), fifty-fifty offshore/inshore one-designs (ex : Mumm 30s or Figaro Bénéteau) and inshore mega prototypes (IACC boats). But a new generation of one-design keelboats is arriving like Melges 24s and similars or Open 750 style ones designed by the Groupe Finot.
Inshore racing is changing and enter in a new spirit as did dinghy racing few years ago. It was time to create a new rule for small and fun racing keelboats following the spirit of the big Open 50s and 60s and Minis 650.
This new rule in the keelboat division will also let designers, builders and sailors to express themselves by using the last technologies. And some of them will also be able to cumulate two or three of these skills as did the Mini 650 class in offshore racing.
Here are the goals of the SEASAILSURF SIX•5 new rule.
In few words :
– OPEN, to let people express themselves ;
– limited to KEELBOATS, for INSHORE racing ;
– let both professionnal and non-professional building and design ;
– NO LIMIT INSIDE, to let people using all technologies and ideas possibles ;
– and offers a new fun and spectacular class for great inshore races.
2. What is the ’No Limit Inside’ ?
This means that the SeaSailSurf SIX•5 rules will not limit any material of technology inside a scope of limited sixes for the design of the boats.
All contributors who want to add his ideas about the rules will define this scope from an Open Forum.
But materials, number and mobility of keel, rudders, and spars will not be limited.
3. What is the scope of the ’No Limit Inside’ ?
A forum of yacht designers, sailors, builders or any other contributors, will define the scope of the ’No Limit Inside’.
Once this scope will be defined, the rule will be presented to launch the new SeaSailSurf SIX•5 class to candidates to design and building.
This scope as for mail goal to be able to accept any boats of the offshore Mini 650 class.
Some charateristics of the rules :
– Hull maxi length : 650 cm
– Hull maxi beam : 300 cm
– Masthead maxi height : 12 m
– Deep maxi : 200 cm
– Maximum overall length : 900 cm
– Maximum beam : 400 cm
– Redressing test at 90°
– Moving spars and keel accepted
– No limitation in the materials involved in the building
– No limitation in electronics
– Security equipment for racing in less than 5 milles from the coast area
4. What is the difference with Mini 650 class ?
The goal of the SeaSailSurf SIX•5 class will not to interfere in the Class Mini live but has to be open to any of the Mini 650 boats who want to enter in a new style of inshore races
5. Will the ’No Limit Inside’ spirit cost a lot ?
Yes. But it is also possible to build a Mini 650 from 100 000 to 150 000 Euros ! Then it is possible to build a SeaSailSurf SIX•5 at an impressive price, as all is possible in the technology in use…
But it will also be possible to enter in the rule by modifying an old Mini at a low price…
6. A yacht design competition for young designers
Once the rules of the SeaSailSurf SIX•5 defined, SeaSailSurf.com will launch an international yacht design competition open to any young designer who has not designed and made built more than ten boats (from dinghy to multihulls).
Professional yacht designers will also be wellcome to take part in the development of the class and to enter in the jury of the yacht design competition.
