The rules of the ’No Limit Inside’ SeaSailSurf SIX•5

dimanche 6 avril 2003Christophe Guigueno

Here the rule 1.0 which defines the rules of the ’No Limit Inside’ SeaSailSurf SIX•5. This rule is opened to any modification. You can bring your comments below by using the forum. This rule, once finalized, will be proposed as a contest of naval architecture opened to young architects (who drew and/or built less than ten sailing boats).

R1. Object

R-1-1 the object of the rule of "SeaSailSurf Six•5" is to define a box (’No Limit Inside’) in which all is authorized question rigging, materials, electronics, etc. All that is not prohibited is thus authorized.

R-1-2 This box must allow any sailing ship measured or having been measured by the Mini Class.

R-1-3 The object of this rule is not to compete with the Mini rules but to offer a box of expression ’ No Limits Inside’ with an aim of inshore racing under fleet or match-racing courses.

R-1-4 The rule "SeaSailSurf Six•5" is not intended to define a class of offshore racing yachts. It must respect the European and international standards of safety for regattas taking place in less than 5 miles of shelters.

R2. Design

Foreword : A boat in conformity with the rule "SeaSailSurf Six•5" is a monoshull of the keelboat type. That wants to say that the hull of the sailing ship has only one flotation plane, when stationary or with sails up in sailing conditions, in which the depth of the hull in all its sections must not decrease in the direction of the axis of symmetry.

R-2-1 Length

R-2-1-a The length of the hull should not exceed 6,50 meters.

R-2-1-b This length does not include the rudders, their fittings, bowsprit bobstay fittings (without devices intended to extend the waterline length).

R-2-1-c The hull gets along between the perpendicular of the stem and the transom.

R-2-2 Box of rules

R-2-2-Measurements are made in the plate of rule defined in R-2-4.

R-2-2-b Maximum hull width is 3 meters, including for the ends of the keels, rudders and drafts.

R-2-2-c Overall width is 5 meters for any other end including the ends of the wings (if mobile) and of (or of) mast-head(s) (if mobile).

R-2-2-d Overall length, measured from the vertical of the point behind of the boat to the vertical of the point more in front of the boat (stopped or in navigation) is 10 meters (either of the back end of the bôme or the rudders to the end of the bowsprit).

R-2-2-e Maximum depth is two meters, whatever is the angle of list of the boat and the position of the keel or the mobile appendices.

R-2-2-f The measurement from the lower part of the keel up to the higher point of the highest extremity of sail must be lower or equal to 14 meters (espar and keel at the vertical and boat in position of stability).

R-2-2-g Whatever their position, appendices (keel, drafts, rudders, etc), mobile spars (including the spreaders or any other dependent end) should not go outside their respective box.

R-2-3 Safety

R-2-3-a The hull must be waterproof and insubmersible.

R-2-3-b The cockpit must be equipped with a system enabling him to empty itself in navigation.

R-2-3-c The bottom of the cockpit must be located upper the top of the water line.

R-2-4 Stability

R-2-4-a The boat will be tested empty without the elements listed below :
fixed weights : riggings installed at fixed points ; usual trimm and ropes for the mobile keel ; ballasts.
mobile weights : ruders ; steering system ; boom n the axis ; ropes descended to the mast foot on a side, in their usual trimming on the other ; the runners and shrouds tended ; drafts, rudders and wings in high position.

R-2-4-b At great angles

R-2-4-b-1 The boat should not present any water way.

R-2-4-b-2 It must present a positive set up right, with a load of 45 kilogrammes at the head of mast (not included push of Archimedes) positioned 14 meters from the end of the keel, all open panels and in the misconfiguration concerning mobile keel(s), ballasts, mast(s).

R-2-4-b-3 This control of rule is carried out with the point of fixing of load on the level of water.

R-2-4-c With the small angles
The boat must present a maximum angle of list of 10°, in its misconfiguration concerning the mobile keel(s), ballasts and mast(s).

Note : official langage for the SeaSailSurf SIX•5 rule is french until a complete rule will be defined.
