• Wild Cards for the Mini 2003
Wild cards have been renamed, they are now called Derogations to the Calendar of Qualification. The administrators are aware of the difficulties the skippers of extra-European nationality can can encounter to be qualified in race.
On top of a single handed qualifying course possibly arranged in their area, we defined the following rule intended to support the internationalization of the Classe :
We ask the organiser of the Mini Transat to reserve a maximum of 6 places, out of the 70 envisaged, intended for runners selected on file (CV nautical, program of navigation, presentation of the project, reason of the request...) by GPO and the administrators of the Classe Mini. To benefit from these reservations, the skippers must have carried out the following navigations :
1 000 miles single handed qualifying course (validated by the qualification committee. 3 months before the start)
1 000 miles in races of the official 2003 calendar with at least a leg of 500 miles.
The deadlines are as follows :
Deposit of the files : March 1, 2003

of the list of the selected skippers : April 1, 2003

of the final list : end of the 2003 Transgascogne
This may be a good news for the non-european skippers who were not able to get qualified from 2002 as may have done most of the french and other european skippers. especially in the protoype division where most of the previous 35 places were booked...
But, now, there will only be 32 places left in both prototype and serie divisions for the Transat The Transat #thetransat #ostar 650 2003 which will start from La Rochelle in September.
For the extra-european sailors it is looking like a good news. But Kiwi sailors, third in 1999, does not see it like this : "Not so good news for me as I am unable to get to France until August and now Classe Mini want us to do the races in Europe. I still plan to do over 3000 nm at sea down here and will get shipped to Europe then I will just have to hope to get something sorted so I can race…"
For the sailors who think they can benefit of this new derogation, they can contact the Classe Mini before march 1st…
