907 miles for Bidégorry’s 40m-long trimaran

Groupama 3 and then Banque Populaire V break the 800 nm barrier

The match between Franck Cammas and Pascal Bidégorry giant trimarans has just made a victim : the record of distance covered in 24 hours ! At the same time, the two trimarans broke the barrier of the 800 miles covered in one day of sea. The Groupama 3 team was the first to announce a 841 nm run. Few minutes after, Banque Populaire’s media team announced a 863 nm run, then 872 nm and, before midday, 907 miles !


Banque Populaire information : "This night Saturday August 1st, 2:00 (Paris hour), whereas Banque Populaire V had a 186.2 miles lead over the time of reference over the North Atlantic with high speeds registered to 44.1 knots (the highest speed recorded on board since the 40m long trimaran was launched in August 2008) and an average speed of 38.9 knots on the last 4 hours. Pascal Bidégorry and his men attacked at the same time another record, the longest distance covered in 24 hours.

This August 1 at 2:00 (French hour), the score was done : 827.8 nautic miles at the average speed of 34,49 knots. This was pulverizing the record established by Groupama 3 in 2007. At 5:00 (French hour), Banque Populaire V again broke the record while having covered the distance of 863 miles and 1 hour later, the 872 miles were registered !"

Pascal Bidégorry was joined at once on the telephone by his media team, equal to himself…

You have recorded the longest distance covered in 24 hours ?
– Pascal Bidégorry : “Yeah yeah, I know yeah ! At the moment we are sailing at 44 knots and we are on track to try to improve it. But we trye to stabilize speed around 40 knots because beyond that made fear ! We have already registered more than 46 knots, it is impressive ! I did not close the eye of the night because it is necessary to anticipate.”

Just before midday (french hour), the Banque Populaire announces another record. Better than the 800 nm barrier broken during the night, it is the 900 nm in 24 hours that has been broken. The mega trimaran has covered 907 milles at the fabulous average speed of 37.79 knots... Next step : 40 knots of average speed over 24 hours ?

The race is not finished. The two machines always slip by towards the Cape Lizard to try to grant the record of the Atlantic… For the moment, the advantage goes to the mega blue trimaran agaisnt the maxi green trimaran…
